whyYoga...
for you?
The answer is simple, we all possess our own healing ability. Yoga is a tool to nourish and empower that ability through self-discovery and awareness. By using the tools of yoga one can explore and reveal their true self. Offering discovery and support on a structural, physiological, emotional and spiritual level.
Yoga is a belief system that taps into the deeper aspect of our humanness. More than just physical postures, Yoga also includes pranayama, chanting, mantra, nyasa and meditation.
Asana

Chanting

Mantra

These tools, used individually or layered in a practice, can be applied and adapted to a person’s individual needs.
As humans, we exist on so many levels: physical, physiological, emotional, and spiritual. Each one of these facets needs nourishment throughout our lives. Yoga has the ability to address one or all of them, by implementing one or all of these yogic tools.

What is Viniyoga?
Viniyoga is the authentic transmission of yoga through T. Krishnamacharya and TKV Desikachar to my teacher Gary Kraftsow. Viniyoga is an ancient Sanskrit term that infers adaptation, differentiation and appropriate application. (Patanjali Yoga Sutra III.6) Thus applying the use of asana, pranayama, nyasa, chanting and meditation as tools of exploration for self-discovery, personal transformation and healing. Each application being adapted to each individual based on their own body, mind and experience.
What makes Viniyoga so effective is the emphasis on function over form, breath as the vehicle for movement in asana, the use of repetition and stay in asanas and an effective science of sequencing postures. These four factors allow a therapist to create a supportive and effective practice based on a clients’ individual needs.
Viniyoga helps a practitioner enjoy the real purpose of yoga by supporting the body and mind through practice and observation of their personal experience with that practice. Strengthening the back in order to support the spine, while riding the breath through asanas, one is able to experience one’s self in a whole new way. Patterns are exposed, shifts can occur, peace and stability attained.
Viniyoga has been researched and its proven effectiveness is evidenced in the practices given to reduce stress by the CEO of Aetna Insurance with its employees and through the NIH (National Institutes of Health) study reducing back pain. This study was published in the Annals of Internal Medicine in 2005.
What clients are saying...

Get ready to breathe, MOVE and dISCOVER!
- Viniyoga links movement with the breath. This makes the practice more structurally integrated, mindful and powerful.
- Viniyoga adapts each practice to a student/clients’ ability and needs.
- Viniyoga eases the body into the postures through the breath with repetition and hold. This allows the student/client to experience the full benefit from each posture.
